Kirk Orelup is a Fitness Design Consultant, Corrective Exercise Specialist, Master Fitness Trainer Honoree, ISSA Elite Trainer, Life Coach with an Emphasis in Weight Loss, Nutritionist, KAATSU Specialist, a former Kettlebell Master Trainer for the American Kettlebell Club, and a Fourth Degree Black Belt in Kajukenbo.
For many years Kirk has been under the tutelage of NY Strength founder and CEO Jack Barnathan, D.C. (a fitness and business consultant for professional and Olympic athletes, performing artists, and much of the fitness and fashion industry). Kirk has combined Dr. Barnathan's scientific knowledge and professional experience with his own personal, kettlebell, and martial arts experiences to create a much needed approach to fitness that exceeds mere personal training.
As a Master of Fitness Design, Kirk has radically departed from the concept of a “trainer,” and he has done so out of necessity. Too many in the industry have abused that term until it is now associated with abuse, pain, powders, fads, and sales gimmicks. It has always been, and is now more than ever, Kirk's goal to enhance function, energy, and mood through sound science, fitness design, and profound motivation.
Kirk is passionate about fitness as a way of life. For him, fitness has allowed him to have some of his greatest personal experiences. He has had the privilege to travel around the world, to meet people of all facets of life, and to experience life through their eyes. He has hiked the Grand Tetons and the Grand Canyon. He has stood on ancient glaciers in Canada and on ancient ruins in the Middle East. He has grown to love meeting new challenges and exploring new limits. But most importantly, fitness is what has allowed him to know himself better and to deepen his love for his fellow man and the world we share.
When Grave's Disease threatened Kirk's health in his early 20s, he refused the recommended irradiation therapy but worked with his doctors medicinally as he examined his lifestyle. Within months, Kirk identified areas of imbalance and adjusted his lifestyle until he was off all medications. He as enjoyed a normal thyroid function ever since. This experience helped shape his knowledge of the body as a whole system with many interdependent subsystems, a concept which he translates to coaching and training clients.
With ill health far behind him, Kirk's travels brought him to Haiti and Sri Lanka on many humanitarian trips. From its infancy, he directed One Hope For Haiti, a program to sponsor children in Haiti so that poor children can attend school. Today, he still supports its mission. He also supports another child-sponsorship program in Sri Lanka called Help in Need. Additionally, he took part in humanitarian aid in Sri Lanka after the tsunami in 2004 and in Haiti after the earthquake in 2010.
As his life demonstrates, Kirk's philosophy is that strength is more than the capacity of the hands, but also of the head and heart.
This is what he brings to his clients, his friends, and now to you.
