I just spoke to our good friends up north, and they tell me that they have had an abundance of snow and that it hasn't even started melting yet. In fact, they got more last night. Well, as much as we pity them, that means we are in for some excellent rafting this Spring. If you were part of last year's "dry run," then I know you share my excitement this year when I say, "The water is up!"
So here's the plan:
We leave Grayslake early Saturday morning, May 25 (that's Memorial Day weekend) and drive the 4-5 hour trip to the Peshtigo River. We check in, pitch tents and raft starting at 2:00 for about 2 hours. We should be able to repeat the rapids as often as we like, so we can be sure to get our full 2-hours worth.
Afterwards, we return to camp, cook out, tell Chuck Norris jokes or whatever, and then sleep under the stars (tents are optional).
The next day, we can lounge, hike, bike, etc., and return home at our own pace. If Monday is a holiday for you, you could even stay an extra day. As for me, I have clients to train.
Rafts or kayaks, helmets, oars, and lifejackets, will be provided by our outfitters, who will also guide us down the river. The rapids are a class 3. The minimum age is 12.
The cost is just $50 per person (for both rafting and camping combined). Follow the link below to reserve your spot.
